FAQ
Do you travel for photoshoots?
Travel expenses are not included in my packages. The first hour of travel from my location in Idaho Falls is free. After that, travel is billed at $50 per hour. If the travel time is less than a full hour—such as an hour and a half—you’ll be charged only for the additional half hour (half of the $50 rate).
What should we wear for our session?
Choose a color palette of 2–4 colors and coordinate rather than match. Start with one outfit as a base, then build around it. Mix textures and layers for visual interest, and limit patterns to one or two people to avoid distraction. Opt for timeless, flattering pieces that reflect your personal style, and avoid logos or graphics for a clean, classic look. Be sure to dress for the setting and season—cozy knits for fall or light fabrics for summer. If you’d like help, I’m happy to provide a sample palette or style guide based on your location or vibe.
How long does it take to get our photos?
My turnaround time is 3–6 weeks. The number of photos you receive varies depending on the type of session, so you can visit my pricing page for full details on photo counts.
Do you offer albums or prints?
Yes, I do! You’ll be able to purchase albums, prints, and other keepsakes directly through your final gallery once it’s delivered—so you can easily choose your favorites right then and there.
This is my first photoshoot, what should I know?
No worries at all — I keep everything simple and stress-free. First, I’ll get your contact info so we can go over all the details of your session. Once everything is set, I’ll send an invoice for the 25% retainer and a contract. After those are completed, you’re officially booked. On the day of your shoot, I guide you through all the posing, provide an outfit guide to help you choose what to wear, and can recommend great locations based on the style you want. I also share helpful prep tips so you feel confident and ready. My goal is to make the whole experience easy, comfortable, and fun from start to finish.
What if the weather is bad on the day of an outdoor shoot?
First, don’t panic — we’ll figure it out together. We have a few easy options. The simplest is to reschedule, and we can wait until the last minute to make the call so we give the weather every chance to cooperate. I know how much time, money, and effort goes into planning your session, so if there’s any way to keep your original date, we absolutely will. If the weather just won’t work with us, we can also switch to a studio last minute, and there are never any extra fees due to weather. My goal is to make sure you still have a beautiful, stress-free session no matter what the skies decide to do. dolor sit amet
What if I need to reschedule?
Life happens, and I completely understand. If you need to reschedule, the first step is simply finding a new day and time that I have available so we can get you back on the books. There is a small cancellation fee, which comes from your 25% retainer amount. To secure your new date, we’ll just rebook the session and the retainer will need to be repaid. I’m here to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible, so just reach out if anything comes up.
What happens if I’m running late?
If you’re running late, that time will unfortunately cut into our scheduled session. I’ll always try to stay a little later if I can, but if the sun is setting or I have other sessions and obligations, I may need to end at the original time. I always recommend planning extra time for parking, getting kids ready, or finding the location so we can enjoy our full session together. Please try to arrive about 10 minutes early. This gives us time to chat, settle in, and make sure everything is ready so we can start right on time and make the most of our daylight.
Any tips for preparing kids for their photos?
The best thing you can do is bring them well-rested, fed, and comfortable — but I know tiny humans can be unpredictable, and that’s totally okay.
Some helpful tips:
Snacks like marshmallows or yogurt bites are great for cooperation. A favorite stuffed animal or toy can help keep them happy before photos and can be used to keep their attention. Try changing them into their photo clothes while you’re in the car on the way over, or once you’re parked — it helps keep them clean and looking picture-ready.
Most importantly, try not to yell or get frustrated. Once stress creeps in, it usually makes things harder.
Let them play, jump, run, and be themselves — candid moments are often the sweetest. Preparing them with something simple like, “Hey, you get your pictures taken next!” works much better than forcing a smile.
Can I bring pets to my session?
Absolutely! Pets are more than welcome. I just ask that all animals stay on a leash when we’re on public land or private property that isn’t owned by you or me. This helps keep everyone safe and follows local guidelines.
What should I bring to my session?
Bring any props you’d like to use, plus comfortable shoes to change into if you’re wearing heels. Water is also recommended, especially on hot days. If you wear glasses, consider bringing a pair of frames without lenses to avoid glare. You’re more than welcome to bring a friend or partner if it helps you feel relaxed and confident. And of course, make sure to dress for the weather so you stay comfortable throughout the session.
